Leonard Sweet Ph.D: So Beautiful: Divine Design for Life and the Church
It's been a long time since I've read anything by Leonard Sweet. I'll write a review on this newest by him.
David Bayles: Art & Fear: Observations On the Perils (and Rewards) of Artmaking
I'm reading this for a little diversity. I see preaching and teaching more as an art form so I am exploring some different resources in this discipline.
Neil Postman: Teaching As a Subversive Activity
This is a an older book from the late sixties but still prophetic when it comes to how we teach in a way that develops learners. I started reading this several years ago and I'm coming back to it now.
Dallas Willard: Knowing Christ Today: Why We Can Trust Spiritual Knowledge
I try to read everything he writes on the Christian life. This is a very timely book for me and I am enjoying, like usual, wading slowly through this book.
Peter Rollins: How (Not) to Speak of God
Interesting and engaging read from this Irish edgy Christian. Great perspective and thoughts on how we understand, communicate and experience the uncontainable God.
Shane Hipps: Flickering Pixels: How Technology Shapes Your Faith
Fascinating insights into how technology shapes us the the message of Jesus. He makes a convincing case that the Medium Is the Message.

Announcing the Kingdom: Inaugural Ceremony

Download "Inaugural Ceremony" We kicked off a year long theme on Announcing the Kingdom. I've been looking forward to this series and am excited for it. In this teaching we trace the theme of a coming king that will finally be the one that can bring true justice and peace to this broken world. We lead up to a vivid picture painted in Revelation ch. 4 and 5 of a coronation ceremony or the inauguration day of Jesus Christ. I love the historical realities that John is addressing that are so relevant and instructive for us 2000 years later. All our hopes for good leaders are shadows that point to the only one that can shoulder the weight of the true needs in this world--Jesus from Nazareth.

Download "BeNativity part 2 Dec 21 2008" I am finally getting caught up with the message posts. Sorry to keep you waiting. In this teaching, I wanted to flesh out a very particular angle and perspective on the Nativity. What does the birth story of Jesus teach us about what God is actually like. If we fundamentally have a broken view and relationship with God, how does the nativity story try to reshape, restore, and renew our picture of who God is? These are the questions and the perspective I am trying to bring to the surface in this teaching. Shalom.

This is a great optimistic book on finances. If you have debt and don't know if you will ever get out from under it. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease get this book. You will be encouraged by people who are guarenteed to be in worse or similar circumstances than you and succeeded. Both Sarah and I were encouraged and challenged by this book. We are due for a reread.
Juliet B. Schor: The Overspent American: Why We Want What We Don't Need
Fabulous book on consumerism and why it ruins us. The consumer life is simply not the best way to live.
Juliet B. Schor: Born to Buy: The Commercialized Child and the New Consumer Culture
As a parent this is such a revealing and disturbing book, on how kids are targeted and formed as consumers. Friends we need a community that lives life differently and is formed by a different set of values.
Randy Alcorn: The Treasure Principle: Unlocking the Secret of Joyful Giving (LifeChange Books)
This is a wonderful little book. I have had a lot of great take aways from this book. The one that sticks with me the most is having give away goals. Like in the next 20 years I want to have given away 1million dollars...something sweet like that.
Bob Buford: Half Time: Changing Your Game Plan from Sucess to Significance
This is a great story of a successful business man figuring out how to use his skill in business for significant and meaningful kingdom building endeavors.
